Types of Sexual Harassment

|

Sexual harassment can occur in different circumstances, not all involving physical contact. An example of verbal sexual harassment is a quid pro quo situation. Typically, when these situations occur, an employer is asking an employee for sex or other sexual favors in exchange for promotions, increase wages, or the employer may threaten the employee with termination if they do not agree. Verbal sexual harassment is not limited to an explicit request for sexual favors, it can be comments that are made about someone’s breasts or butt, as long as it is something sexual in nature. It is also not limited to an employer-employee relationship. It can occur with a co-worker, a manager of a department, or someone working for the employer.
